games experienced a drop in performance from 144 fps to 60-70 fps
So recently I purchased a new computer and it has been working well until now. I was playing games as usual, but recently I started playing Conan Exiles and Total War: Warhammer 3 at the same time. That’s something I’ve only done once before, and both are quite demanding. After a while, I stopped playing Conan and just played Warhammer, which ran smoothly. I stopped after some time and left for about five hours. Now, whenever I try to play any game, it’s not performing well—getting around 55-60 frames per second in less demanding games, whereas earlier they were at 144 FPS. Conan is running at a terrible 25 FPS, the GPU usage is at 99%, and the CPU is only 5-30%. This seems to suggest a hardware problem? I just updated my drivers to check if that would help, but it didn’t. Could there be another issue? I’m a bit concerned that maybe these two games caused overheating and damaged the system or something.
My specs are: GeForce 3070 Ti 8 GB, i7-12700K with closed system liquid cooler, 16 GB DDR4 at 3200 MHz, 2 TB SSD, and a 850-watt PSU.
I also noticed when loading Warhammer 3 that the game started showing some black flickering—parts of the screen appeared as if they were cloudy or transparent black. There were also unusual graphical events, like floating ice flickering when I moved the camera.
Perform a health or performance assessment on your SSD. It might be overheating while running two games simultaneously. If the results are satisfactory, disable automatic downloads, use the ddu uninstaller (referenced in my notes) to completely remove the drivers, then install the latest GPU drivers. When accessing the Nvidia control panel 3D settings, turn off VSync and keep all other settings unchanged just for testing. Finally, run your games to observe any improvements.
Sorry, I didn't provide a method to verify your SSD. It's acceptable as long as its health and performance are satisfactory, allowing you to proceed with the SSD issue. You might want to remove the GPU drivers as mentioned before. Additionally, you can run sfc /scannow in Windows PowerShell (with admin rights) to inspect your Windows files.
i uninstalled drivers using ddu and reinstalled them with the drivers i downloaded from nvidia while offline. i removed the cmos battery left it out for like 2 mins put it back and that also didn't work. I've now reinstalled windows and am just waiting for a game to reinstall to test it. I've got boonies internet so it takes a while lol. ty for the help.
