I recently upgraded to a 5900x and a 6700xt. I play at 1080p but performance remains inconsistent. While the game runs without major issues, it still stutters occasionally. I experience constant frame drops when loading levels, though it's not completely unresponsive. Upgrading to faster RAM hasn't resolved the problem, though it does provide some improvement. Overclocking attempts yielded a maximum speed of 3133MHz, which only slightly eases the strain. If it makes any difference here, please see my part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XL6npH

It might be the hard drive issue, plus the unusual RAM speed you have. I’d start with a new Windows installation and reset all your storage devices before considering any hardware changes.

Thanks for the update. I remember getting a 7 2700 CPU back then, and when I wasn’t working, I kept things simple by resetting the BIOS and drivers right away. The HDD is just for files—documents, photos, videos—and my OS is on the Kingston drive while games are on the M.2. I’m wondering if using that HDD would still lead to those problems.

Consensus reached on motherboard choice. RAM speed isn't the main factor here. The 5900X requires robust VRM cooling. Current setup includes DDR4-3200 Crucial Ballistix, a 1TB WD Blue SN570 M.2 drive, an Asus TUF B550-PLUS, and an RTX3060ti with 8GB RAM. It's not a 3080 or 3080ti model, yet it runs smoothly without stuttering. The biggest limitation is the outdated 60Hz TV screen. Updated May 28, 2022 by An0maly_76, additional details provided.

I have the B550M Pro4. I'm planning to upgrade my RAM to check if it makes a difference. I'm confident my motherboard works well since I researched options for the 5900X. The only concern is the RAM speed.

RAM performance can be improved by enabling PBO in BIOS if needed. Have you turned on EDOC to match the rated speed? Your 3200 MHz was capped at 2666 until you adjusted it. What cooling system are you using? You likely checked for throttling, but it's always a good idea to verify.

PBO could be incorrect; I should verify that. EDOC isn't clear to me, but when I push overclock past 3133mhz, my PC restarts several times before resetting the setting back to 2666mhz. I’ll postpone adding new RAM until then. Right now I’m not using the machine, so once I’m back and adjust the BIOS, I’ll let you know if it works. I also checked for thermal throttling and everything looks normal. For cooling, I’m using a "M22 Kraken NZXT."

You might want to check the official ASRock website or forums for your B550M PRO4 model. Look for compatible components or support pages that list available parts. If not found there, consider reaching out to ASRock customer service directly.

Intel refers to this as XMP. There may be other names for it depending on the motherboard. The process of locating it can vary, and I’m not well versed with ASRock. Some suggestions include @Somerandomtechyboi, @GeorgeMKane, @RONOTHAN##, and @191x7.

Unfortunately yes. I'm familiar with that brand. According to the RAM you listed though, you can only max set it to 2933MHz or 3000MHz, as far as setting profiles goes. You can try manually overclocking it, if you want to go a bit further, but I usually don't recommend that. You would have to look up tutorials on how to do that. Your motherboard is decent enough for a 5600X or 5800X, but it doesn't have great VRMs for the 5900X. I think the b450m pro4 is what companies used for their pre-builts the last couple of years, and it hasn't worked out fantastically. In fact, I've seen a lot of returns on those, or people just swapping the motherboards right away (usually I recommend just building it themselves at that point though tbh). If you can do it soon, I would recommend upgrading the motherboard, RAM, AND the psu. Your current PSU isn't fantastic for a 5900X, 6700XT build. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Vk23Rv Edited May 29, 2022 by GeorgeMKane
