I've experienced comparable problems while using rivatuner; always uncheck the box during installation afterburner. Rivatuner is linked to cancer.

It's been happening more often than expected. When the Rivatuner task is launched, the Steam Overlay fails to appear. Shadow Warrior 2 was especially troublesome in this regard.

tbh, having RivaTuner active is really helpful. i just need to switch the HUD with ctrl+o to check performance or resource usage. oddly enough, some media apps like Kodi and Jriver also show the RivaTuner OSD even after it was turned off on a game.
