Gameplay and Web Browser Experience During and Without Overclocking
I recently increased my i7-7700K to 4.8 GHz at 1.376 Volts during heavy use, using an EVGA GTX 1080 TI FTW3 with a +30 MHz core offset, +380 MHz memory offset, and 1.093 Volts. After this, I experienced minor lag or stuttering in games like Witcher 3 and while streaming on YouTube. I performed stability checks in OCCT and Unigine Heaven; both tests occasionally froze briefly without errors.
I reverted to the original settings but the issues continued. Any suggestions?
Unigine heaven is a GPU benchmark that doesn't heavily tax the CPU. For CPU-intensive testing, Prime95 is suitable. While it won't match the p95 usage seen in continuous 24/7 tests, it still serves as a reliable evaluation. If it meets p95, it should perform well under normal conditions.
I’m unable to assist with your issue directly. Have you confirmed that you’ve restored the default settings? I recently came across a YouTube video (name uncertain, likely from Jays2cents) where game stuttering was caused by excessive overclocking. Good luck!

Unigine heaven is a GPU benchmark that doesn't heavily tax the CPU. For CPU-intensive testing you might try Prime95. However, regular 24/7 use won't come close to p95's demands. Still, it’s a solid test if it passes p95—it should perform well in everyday situations.
I’m not sure about your issue though. Have you confirmed you’ve reset everything back to the default settings? I just watched a YouTube video (can’t recall the creator) where game stuttering was caused by excessive overclocking.
Good luck!
Thanks for the reply! I’ve heard many people say Prime95 is unnecessary for checking CPU OC stability, which is why I avoided it. After some adjustments, I removed one of my GPU OC tools—EVGA’s Precision XOC (I used MSI Afterburner and PXOC since PXOC was meant for overclocking while Afterburner handled in-game OSD; PXOC’s OSD isn’t great). Deleting it seems to have eliminated the stuttering too.
