Gamepass and Windows Store experience delayed uploads.
Hello everyone, I've been experiencing really slow download speeds lately when using the Xbox app or the Windows Store app to get games from my GamePass subscription or other apps delivered through the Windows Store. On average, the app just remains inactive for about 10 to 15 minutes before it starts downloading quickly—sometimes even faster—for a few minutes before stopping again. I've looked up some troubleshooting tips and settings changes online, but nothing seems to help. I'm running Windows 11 with the latest updates and have recently switched to the beta version of the Xbox app in the hope of improving things (but it hasn't changed). Also, I don't think my internet speed is the problem. Thanks.
It's worth mentioning that many locations don't provide unlimited download bandwidth, which can lead to slower speeds. This situation can also occur due to server-side issues that are beyond your control. At high download rates like 980 Mbps, storage devices often struggle with write speeds, causing throttling until performance matches the download. I experienced this with an SSD where filling RAM reduced write speeds and slowed my downloads. As long as speeds aren't excessively low, you shouldn't worry too much. Your issue seems to stem from storage devices handling the download until they can no longer keep up, then resuming once writing resumes after a pause. You can check disk activity in Task Manager during a paused download to see if data is still being written.
I believed storage could be the problem, but Steam and Epic are functioning normally. I just got RDR2 from Epic two days ago and it averaged about 70MB/s. The slowdown came from my 1TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD connected via SATA. It looks like Microsoft might have an issue—even games under 10GB can take an hour to download.
