Hi, I just purchased this laptop (ASUS Scar III) with an i7 9th gen and RTX 2070, 16GB RAM. It worked great for the past four months, especially in games like Fortnite, where I was getting over 190 frames. Now I’m struggling to reach 150 FPS and sometimes it drops below 100, especially in areas with lots of buildings. I tried everything—changed settings, adjusted resolution to 1600, set core clock speed and temperature, and cleaned the laptop twice a week. The fans run up to 7200 RPM without issues, and I haven’t had any thermal problems. The cooling pad helps keep things cool. I’ve used various cleaning tools and malware scanners, but I still didn’t see the improvements I expected. The FPS drops are really frustrating. Please help if you know anything, and sorry for the poor English.

It might happen that as time passes, additional programs are installed and consume computing power in the background. Open Task Manager, turn off automatic startup for these programs, and keep an eye on any applications running in the background that use a lot of resources while idle. These could be draining performance and affecting game speed. A reformat isn’t needed unless you want to move files and data to another drive, which would essentially mean reinstalling the OS. By removing unnecessary background apps, you should notice improved performance compared to when you first set up the computer.

I disabled all background apps and launched the games directly. Now nothing appears except the game console and a couple of titles. Over the past four months I’ve installed Play and removed almost 30–40 games completely. My device is running smoothly, and I haven’t changed Windows at all.

Your game performance should hit 1845_1800, but it caps at 1500. This might point to a hardware or settings issue. Could adjusting related parameters help?

Beginning anew is always great! Regular refreshes have really helped fix many issues for me.

I have a Helios 300 paired with a GTX 1660Ti, and it seldom hits its core clock speeds. I believe the issue is related to cooling with laptops in general.

Consider a repair setup that lets you retain your information initially before opting for a full reset (which requires backing up data first and then moving it afterward).

I think I’ll reinstall Windows on Friday and will keep you all in the loop.
