I used to be a dedicated Fallout gamer, spending long sessions on NV and purchasing all the DLCs. Recently, I got Fallout 4 but kept experiencing low frame rates around 35-40 FPS, making combat extremely frustrating. This disappointment led me to consider refunding my purchase. I really wanted to enjoy the game and invest my time, but I'm worried about getting angry again if I buy it. Would you think the experience would still be enjoyable even at a lower frame rate? I just want your honest opinion.
Adjusting the settings is straightforward at 60FPS on a 970 with 1080p—shadows and glare are the main issues. Distance seems to play a role, though I haven’t tested much lately. Running at full capacity works, but fine-tuning can help avoid capping at 30 FPS, which I think is unrealistic. A 30 FPS feel quite poor.
I even set everything to maximum with strong beams and still experienced intense dips.
It's puzzling why the game doesn't run smoothly at full speed, except for certain effects like Godrays and lighting, which are still running at high settings. Your system specs look good—i5 processor and 980 MHz CPU—so the issue might be with the graphics or other settings.
