Game performance fluctuates with intense GPU activity, leading to instability.
Hello, I've been trying to resolve this problem after extensive research and troubleshooting with minimal success. Here are my details:
- Processor: i9 13900KF, 32GB DDR5 RAM (2x16)
- Motherboard: 4070 Super Z790-P, WiFi, 850W PSU
- Recently purchased Barony for gaming sessions with friends
- Issue started after about 10 minutes of play
- GPU usage jumps from ~25% to 200+ FPS then drops to 80-90%, causing frame drops and crashes
- Tried virtual memory, limiting FPS, undervolting, disabling HDR, turning off hardware acceleration
- Windows Event Viewer shows error code 153 at crash time
- Latest graphics drivers installed ~1 month ago; RAM re-seated a few times due to another issue
- Stress tested with FurMark – GPU ran fine (99% usage, temps ~66°C)
- PC built in late October 2024; no other games cause the problem yet
- Streaming Barony on Discord causes extreme lag—single frame, updates every 15s
- Need advice or guidance to fix this
Any suggestions would be really helpful. Thanks!
I revised my profile about half a month back, which keeps the i9 stable; feel free to verify later if any new release appears. Thank you!
This might simply stem from the game's optimization issues. For instance, Path of Exile 2 causes random loading screens, spikes CPU to maximum, and can lead to a hard shutdown. Even powerful systems like the 9800X3D freeze completely. It seems the problem isn't your hardware but the game itself. Check forums for similar reports.
