Typically, most DLC is available on the developers' site or on the DVD that came with the game. If you obtained it digitally through a service like Steam, Origin, or similar, chances are you’ll need to purchase the DLC unless it was offered for free.

According to Wikipedia, the original version was available without a downloadable DLC.

If it's an older title, you'll need to download the entire game, even if you don't own the DLC. The same applies to BF2 on my system.
