I checked my GPU performance using GeForce Experience, MSI Afterburner, and HWinfo64. All three tools show 98% usage during games, yet the Task Manager displays only 30% to as low as 2%. This discrepancy might explain why I’m experiencing issues. Recently I reset my PC because I had to replace my old storage. After that, I started facing major problems while gaming and even when streaming or watching videos. I wanted to play PUBG, but noticed something strange: my FPS dropped to around 30, accompanied by severe micro stutters and extremely laggy moments similar to what I see in Rocket League. My FPS remains consistent (around 180-300) compared to before, yet these fluctuations make games unplayable. It’s even worse in Forza Horizon 5—my normal FPS is about 70, but it often drops to just 6, causing my screen to freeze occasionally. I’ve tried resetting again, updated the BIOS, ensured all drivers are working, set my CPU to 5GHz all cores (which was my usual setting before), changed my GPU, adjusted RAM settings, checked for power throttling via HWinfo, reset everything, and even disconnected RGB lights, changed power plans, and tested with different games. Still, rainbow six runs smoothly at around 250 FPS (down from 350), and I don’t see lag in Explorer or Desktop. My specs are: i9-9900K @5GHz all cores (previously used), Gigabyte Aorus RTX 2080 Ti Xtreme 32GB ADATA Spectrix 3000MHz, 250GB Crucial P2 (new drive), 1TB Crucial P1 (old), 128GB Samsung NVMe drive, and a Gigabyte G750H power supply. The PSU supports cooling, I’m using a Corsair 5000D Airflow with Arctic P12 fans and an EK AIO 360 d-RGB. The GPU stays under 60°C, and the CPU never exceeds 65°C.
Have you verified your temperatures? It’s possible the thermal paste wasn’t applied correctly or there’s an obstruction affecting performance. Your cooler seems sufficient, but a blockage could be the issue. You might also want to reinstall your GPU into the socket.
I've already attempted to re-seat the components, and temperatures are still normal. My CPU doesn't reach 60 degrees and the GPU performance is consistent. After installing HWinfo, it only reported high utilization for the GPU and voltage limits, which are within expected ranges. Everything seems fine overall. In FH5, I'm seeing about 30% CPU usage and 99% GPU usage, but that doesn't seem to be an issue. I'm currently running on a high-performance Windows power plan.
I discovered a short workaround—at least for Pubg and Rocket League it’s dropping to 1080p instead of 1440p. It feels odd given how easy it should be to play those titles at full resolution.
