Game keeps showing black screen on some things.
I am completely stuck on what to do. I keep getting random black screens in specific games, and this keeps happening over and over again. The only game where it works is Sniper Elite 4. Sometimes the screen goes black after playing for a while or so. At first, the sound worked for a few minutes, but now it feels like someone unplugged the HDMI and DP cables from the computer. I thought it was just a power supply problem, but I already changed the power supply. I also got a UPS during this time. Sometimes the fans on my Graphics Card spin up to full speed, but that isn't very common. (Everything is brand new, no overclocking or anything like that). Sometimes I see an error in Reliability History: https://imgur.com/a/W4RSDDJ View: https://imgur.com/a/W4RSDDJ I tested my parts individually and they all work fine when I stress test the CPU and GPU. Sometimes I get a message saying "Default Radeon WattMan settings have been restored due to unexpected system failure" but not always. What have I tried so far? 1. Checking temperatures. Neither my CPU nor GPU gets hotter than 70 degrees Celsius. I took a file called HWINFO64 before the computer crashed, maybe that can help explain things. 2. Drivers. I tried the WHQL driver again and the latest one, then I tried uninstalling it with DDU. Nothing worked there. 3. Swapping all my HDMI and DP cables. Both have been changed with the same problem coming up each time. 4. Contacting MSI support about this issue. They recommend sending it back for a refund (RMA). Is that just what I need to do now? It's the first time I've done this, and it makes me nervous. My computer is set up exactly like this: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X with 3.7 GHz speed and has 8 cores Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black as my cooler MSI X470 GAMING PRO ATX AM4 Motherboard Corsair Vengeance LPX memory sticks with 32 GB total capacity (two of them) DDR4 running at 3200 MHz CL16 Intel 660p hard drive that holds 1.02 TB and is connected via an M.2 slot with a Solid State Drive Corsair power supply that has a rating of 750 Watts and gives out 80% plus Gold certification for full modularity in an ATX case
Same trouble as me? I just got a new power supply. Let's hear what it gives us later!
Have you ever tried a "driver-only" install? I ran into the same problem with my RX 6700XT just this past week until I checked every troubleshooting step possible. The only thing that helped was installing drivers alone (kinda sucks not using Radeon Software, but at least it's not black screening... for now). Went to upgrade from version 22.5.1 to 22.8.2, and the games that had trouble with the full install option seem to be fixed. But I'm not getting my hopes up because I got kicked out of troubleshooting if the issue comes back later. If it happens again, I might send the card for RMA. 😅
I just went ahead with this, and the problem is still there. Maybe I should send it back for repair to figure out if it's a faulty card or something completely different.
