Game issues causing random shutdowns or power-off moments while playing
Hello Community I’m facing an unusual problem. Let me explain my setup and the situation. Recently, while playing randomly, my PC would shut down unexpectedly—never fully powering off. I can hear the fans spinning, but the machine won’t turn on at all. When I try to reset it using the power supply, it refuses to restart. My only workaround is holding the power button for 30 seconds so the CMOS battery drains, after which I can successfully boot again. I’m unsure what’s causing this and think certain actions might trigger it, like during specific moments in games such as Destiny 2’s Final Shape boss fight or when damage begins in Valorant. It seems high FPS might be a factor, and other high-performance games also seem to cause it. My current hardware includes a 5800X3D CPU (new), B450 MSI Tomahawk GPU (old), XFX RX 6950XT Speedster (new), 16GB RAM (Patriot Viper Steel 3733), Seasonic G12 GM-850 Gold 850W PSU (new), 480GB SSD SATA, 1TB NVMe for games, and 1TB HDD. I’ve replaced the CPU and GPU, upgraded the PSU, but everything feels old. I ran stress tests on both components, but nothing triggered a crash. I even overclocked the GPU to see if it would help, yet it didn’t cause any issues. Now I’m confused about what might be wrong and don’t know how to fix it.
What BIOS version are you running on your motherboard? Which CPU cooler are you using? I’m hoping it isn’t the one that came with the 3600X. Have you looked at your SSD for firmware updates? Do you have a multimeter to test the CMOS battery voltage (since your motherboard is several years old)?
The problem stems from RAM incompatibility issues, common in certain Ryzen models.
