Turning off XMP appears to help the issue. I played for a long time (RT on) without any problems. I'll go back after further testing.

Isn't this already quite challenging and possibly not well optimized? I remember it was tough when it first launched, though I think some updates have improved things a bit? Still, introducing the heavy ray tracing workload will likely push even the most powerful 40 series GPU with 32 GB RAM to their limits. In short, you might be expecting too much—consider disabling RT completely.

Continuing to experience crashes during gameplay at Max Graphics + RT seems likely due to heavy usage and possible optimization issues.

Absolutely, people are pushing the limits and experimenting with configurations. Even though they know more than I do, my friend managed to play through without many issues. I think there are plenty of guides to explore if you're interested.
