I really appreciate the visual appeal of games. After trying the new cowboy game, other titles seem much less impressive visually. Of course, I'm playing some older games compared to Red Dead 2. But I think seeing them clearly from farther away makes a big difference—not just in sharpness but also in texture quality. Since I can't sit close to my monitor all the time, I'd like to know if it's possible to achieve this effect by playing at a greater distance. Would it really work similarly to 4K viewing?

This explains why games should prioritize a strong visual appeal independent of high graphics. Visual quality diminishes over time, while design remains consistent. You might consider using a borderless, windowed setting at a reduced resolution (for example, 1080p on a 4K display). This helps the game occupy less screen space and creates a more immersive distance effect.

It seems Minecraft isn't your cup of tea. I recently played Deus Ex: GTA, which used to be a 640x480 standard. The visuals were a bit blurry, but the game itself was really solid.

Absolutely, it doesn't seem to work for me either.

This way the game occupies less room on your display and it appears more distant.

Hey there. That actually functioned. I thought it was a silly concept at first.

This game is a true investment. I'm being honest.

I enjoy classic titles and enhance their appearance with mods and higher resolutions. I also run two gaming systems, one featuring a 4K 55" OLED display and the other an ultra-wide setup. When lighting is poor, I switch to ENB or Reshade, often using both together. ENB lets me achieve deep depth of field, helping mask distance limitations. I also employ weather mods that introduce fog effects on the ground. Certain games appear sharper at 4K because their visual details struggle at lower resolutions. Fallout 4 fits this pattern—its leafless trees and pixel density issues make 1080p or 1440p less effective. For Mass Effect (versions 1,2,3), I use ENB, higher textures, and 4K Ultra to improve the look. Skyrim is my go-to for visual tweaks, mainly for better character lighting. I play Red Dead Redemption 2 at 3840x1600 on a 38" ultra wide monitor because the expansive snow scenes look more vivid there, and it keeps my frame rate near the display refresh. At 4K, I maintain around 60fps, but 16:9 feels cramped. This game doesn’t gain much from higher resolution, so I don’t feel compelled to upgrade.

Realistic visuals tend to degrade the most. I don’t really appreciate some of the graphics in RDR2. Sure, I play mostly on medium with ultra textures, but human characters look much better in games like Jedi Fallen Order, Tomb Raider, Doom Eternal, and so on. Plus, I can run those titles at high-ultra without issues, which makes RDR2’s optimization seem pretty poor.
