Game frozen up?
Game frozen up?
Hello, I really need some help because I can't figure this out so please be patient with me. I have been having a freezing problem but only for big games like Rainbow6 Siege, Sea of Thieves, and Destiny 2, etc. When I play other games like Rocket League, MX Bikes, Sons of the Forest, or others, I never get frozen issues. Basically, after playing anywhere from three to eight hours, my game freezes completely and I can't exit it unless I open task manager and click 'end task' on whatever game I'm running. More often than not, it freezes between five and eight hours but I have had a few times where it freezes sooner. After I end the task, my PC acts like everything is fine, with no issues at all. But when I pull up the game again, it freezes again anytime from three to eight hours. I know freezing can happen for a million reasons so here is what I tried already: an SFC scan, memory scan, virus scan with Kaspersky, disk scan, updated drivers, updated Windows, updated BIOS, updated my CPU with AMD, deleted temp files, disabled unwanted background apps, changed system properties to run on performance, ran a stress test, and removed the glass panel. For some insight, I have a high-end PC and it has only been around six to seven months. The computer is not overclocked and I set the fans to automatic after running a test for best optimal fan speeds. My specs include: Hyte Y60 case, all four sticks of G-Skill Trident Z DDR5 running at 6400 MHz with a total of sixty-four gigabytes of ECC RAM holding sixteen gigabytes Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSD holding two terabytes, Ryzen 9 7950X sixteen-core CPU, ASUS ROG Strix X670E-A motherboard, Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070ti AERO graphics card, four Lian Li 120mm fans and four 140mm fans, a Lian Li 360mm liquid CPU cooler, Corsair RM1000X power supply, and I would really appreciate any help.
Hey, I'm not an expert at all, but I've learned some stuff from my own experiences. It sounds like you've already figured out how to fix the problem. Since freezing only happens with big games, it might be because those games make your system work too hard. Here are a few other things you can try: Look at temperatures: Make sure your CPU and GPU don't get too hot while playing. You can use programs like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to watch the numbers. Check your drivers: Even though you said you updated them, sometimes new versions cause trouble. Try going back to an older version of the driver to see if that helps. Change in-game settings: Lower some graphics settings for the games causing freezing to reduce strain on your system. Check background apps: Make sure no extra programs are using resources while gaming. You can use Task Manager to find any heavy apps running quietly. Verify game files: If you play on Steam, make sure all your game files are complete and not broken. Watch usage rates: While playing, keep an eye on how much power your CPU and GPU use to see if things are acting up. Power supply worries: Even though your power supply seems fine, double-check that all connections are tight. Check for BIOS updates: Go to the motherboard website to see if there are new updates that might help with compatibility issues. If this still doesn't work, you could reach out to other tech communities or forums where experts can guide you through it. Good luck, and I hope you find a fix soon!
One more option, besides what we looked at before, is memory (RAM). You probably have a lot of extra memory installed for games, so maybe Windows isn't using all of it until you play something really heavy. I'd suggest taking out two sticks of RAM right now—you won't even see the difference. Then swap them and try with the other two. Check if it freezes on one pair but not the other.
The Armoury Crate app could show some extra parts that aren't on the sticker yet, but they might be cool to try it out. You can find the link for those parts here: https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-st..._download/.
Thanks a lot for your help, though because freezing really takes a long time I won't know if my answer is correct yet. But I am going to try everything in this end anyway. Thanks!
Your computer has a lot of old drivers inside it, so please check if you need new ones just to make sure everything works right.
