I played Assassins Creed Odyssey for three hours and encountered two problems. First, climbing the Statue of Zeus caused a crash; restarting didn’t help and I ended up avoiding heights altogether. Then, when I received a quest from the temple priestess asking for the spear of Kephalos, the game would crash repeatedly during the cave encounter before I could loot it. I also dealt with an AMD driver timeout issue that kept appearing whenever it crashed. A user named nuclearleaf1 suggested lowering the GPU speed to 1215 from 1300, which helped me secure the treasure and reach the mainland without another crash. My system runs an RX580 with 8 gigabytes of RAM, Skill Ripjaw, and a Ryzen 7 processor. All other missions were completed successfully, though I avoided the Cyclops until after finishing the quest.

Check what you have and its age to see if it needs replacement.

I own a 750-watt Thermaltake that I haven’t used in over a year. Everything else functions properly, except for Odyssey. It’s the sole game I’m experiencing problems with so far, aside from the others I’ve tried—likely before the sale ends.

I discovered a workaround online for the problem. The same solution worked for both Odyssey effects and Origins, and it also fixed an old driver. I installed the AMD 19.8.2 driver. Before that, I messed with my BIOS settings, but it didn’t help. Updating Windows didn’t resolve the issue either. After updating the driver, things improved significantly. I was able to scale the statue of Zeus without issues and other fast travel points too. There were crashes during worshipper travel to the fortress island, but everything ran smoothly afterward. Once I got past the initial area and onto the ship, it worked better. Install that driver.
