I posted the same content on Reddit but included a video to help others. You can view it here: I added several extra troubleshooting attempts after my initial post. Although I swapped GPUs with a friend to check for the problem, neither of us faced the exact same issue. However, I encountered artifacts using his GPU, leading me to suspect another factor in my setup. For context, his GPU is a 5700XT. We both removed previous drivers and installed new ones for each other’s units. I can reliably reproduce the artifacting shown in the Reddit thread. To fix it, I’ve tried several things: changed display cables, swapped GPU slots on the motherboard, used different RAM, switched power supplies, cleared CMOS (though I hadn’t done this before), and even disabled overclocks. I also ran the Display Driver Uninstaller in safe mode and reinstalled drivers. Windows Defender blocked game folders during installation, and I adjusted BIOS settings like overclock and XMP. I’ve reset everything and cleared CMOS to try and resolve it. I’m worried the GPU might be failing but remain hopeful it’s a software issue before considering returns. The system was built about a year ago, so warranty should still apply. Here are my specs: CPU i9-12900K, Motherboard Z690 Aorus Ultra, RAM Trident Z5 RGB 5600 CL36-36-36-89, GPU Asus TUF 3090, PSU EVGA 1300 G+, and I’m still seeking advice.
unexpectedly faced a similar problem. The game would freeze without cause, while my system ran smoothly. it turned out HPET or a Windows internal timer was the culprit. turning it off resolved the issue. you can try this method via CMD—it's the simplest way. don't forget to restart the PC if it doesn't fix itself.
Thank you for your feedback. It makes a lot more sense now. I gave it a shot, though I'm still noticing artifacts on this GPU... it might just be an unrelated problem with his hardware. I was hoping the freezing issues would also explain the artifacts. We're swapping GPUs again next Thursday, so if that's the case, I'd know then.
