Hello I just built a new pc. Everything seems to be running well except when I am playing COD Modern Warfare 2. After around 45 min of playing the pc will sometimes crash leaving the monitor displaying the last frame. My build is a 3080 12gb msi, 13700k, z690 ultra aorus, ek waterblock cpu cooler 240mm, gskill ddr5 5200mhz running at 4800mhz, 850w corsair psu. The pc is really new so I dont know if it is the game that is causing the issues or my pc. Do any of you have any experience with this or know what may be going on? update: The PC is crashing more frequently. I might have it fully crash 3 - 4 times in a two hour gaming session. Due to the screen just freezing and the lack of errors, I am wondering if it is a software issue. Do you think that wiping the drive and doing an entirely new install of windows and my apps will fix the issue?

It might be related to a driver problem—look into Nvidia forums for similar issues. It could also stem from overheating; try running benchmarking apps continuously to observe the behavior. Minimize third-party applications while testing. Are you using separate or pigtail cables for the GPU? Tools like HWInfo64, MSI Afterburner, Unigene Heaven, Superposition, Cinebench, and Prime95 offer monitoring and testing options. After reviewing relevant forums (games and drivers), isolate one component at a time to identify the root cause.

I also faced this problem with my Alder Lake setup, but it affected Rocket League across all titles. I managed to play six consecutive hours of Assassin's Creed Origins, yet Rocket League would crash during gameplay. I don’t have a specific fix yet. With updates from the driver and the game, things seem to be getting better. It could just take some time.

GPU drivers are current. I just installed HWinfo64 but haven’t worked with live data yet, so I’m unsure about my temperatures. I’ve completed benchmarks for both CPU and GPU. The GPU stays cool, but the CPU can exceed 90°C after 10 minutes of heavy use. I’m not sure if this is happening in the game, so I’ll need to test further. I plan to slightly undervolt to lower my temps. It might just be Modernwarfare 2 having a bug, as I noticed occasional frame drops, so more testing could be necessary.

I believed it might be related to the updated hardware and the new game version causing problems.

The latest Intel CPUs are performing exceptionally well, with temperatures staying within normal ranges. It seems the issue might be related to software, such as CoD behaving unexpectedly. Verify factors like PCIe link status, GPU scheduling, and ensure maximum power and performance settings are applied.

90C spikes with water cooling seem unusual. It might be related to auto-OC. For your problem, if it's just one game, the issue is likely with the drivers. Newer versions aren't always superior. You could test older or beta drivers. It's also a good idea to disable automatic driver updates—they can cause more issues than fixes.

You're experiencing crashes during both gain and in-game play. Here are some tips: check system resources, update drivers, ensure stable internet connection, and verify game compatibility.
