My friend mentioned new content for the game. I own Eltie Dangerous but struggled with its controls. Using my Logitech pad didn’t work well, and my old Microsoft Sidewinder also didn’t impress me. Who uses what works best? What gives a solid play?
Keep practicing to become comfortable. Initial bindings can feel confusing because you must use all six axes for control.
As discussed, the controls with the controller didn’t meet my expectations. I think the joystick has too many limitations. The keyboard and mouse feel quite poor for the game. I became annoyed and thought it was a waste of time. Fortunately, the game was available at a discount.
It often requires many buttons. During my active time I used a Fly 5 joystick, though it appears no longer available. I combined it with a keyboard as well. Some gamers avoid button presses by employing voice commands.
I explored some options and noticed others use two joysticks, like the Razer Tartarus, or full Hotas configurations. I considered going with a Hotas but found it costly. A setup that expensive would mean needing more than one game to run it, plus it would occupy a lot of desk space—something that could complicate my monitor upgrade plans.
The issue involved the throttle axis shifting its zero position. When operating in supercruise, for instance, dropping to normal space would cause it to reverse direction if you were at full throttle in super, or move forward unexpectedly if you were at zero in normal space. The same happened during docking, which was very frustrating. It seemed like only me experienced this problem, and even after checking and posting on the Frontier forums, no assistance was found.
