Game compatibility issues with Windows settings Power configuration doesn't apply in certain applications.
I've broken the securing pins on my CPU cooler and while I wait for a replacement to show up, I wanted to underclock the CPU. Everywhere I go I read that this should be possible in Windows Power settings, so I switched the Power Plan to Balanced, and set the maximum processor state to "80%" under the Processor Power Management option. I can see in Windows itself, if I use a tool like CPUID HWMonitor, that it honors the setting and downclocks the CPU to 2700MHz, from its max of 3400MHz, but as soon as I switch from the desktop and bring a game into the foreground, I can see the frequency jumping up to 3400MHz. Looks like the setting isn't being honoured when in game. Anyone know how to fix this?
