Your PC should handle Battlefield 1 well with the given specs. The 8GB RAM and 10th Gen processor should support it, especially if you adjust to a 16:9 display.

The CPU could face some issues, but your suggestions are solid. Starting with a GPU is a great idea—go for an R9 270X. That way, you’ll be in the right place, though I noted the CPU might still be a bit limited.

I understand you were mainly focused on the CPU.

I believe it will work, though I anticipate some discomfort, does it slow down the 390 in your view?

I don't really feel that way much. It's tougher to match up with benchmarks because I have an ultrawide setup, but it does run okay in games like Rainbow Six Siege—just a bit slower than the best, though. Mostly graphical heavy games, except for Doom, which I was thinking of swapping for Battlefield 1.

You could check online references for comparisons. Both the CPU and GPU perform well at high settings with 1080p resolution.

Results are even superior compared to Beta. FPS consistently stays above 100, reaching the highest settings (1440p) on a complete server. You should be all set.

It works perfectly with your 6700K setup. All the other components except the i7 are slowing down to 30 frames per second in this game. The performance is quite demanding on the CPU.

I believe your processor would perform significantly better than this.

The i5 6600K is necessary because multiplayer games demand a lot of processing power, particularly with 64 players online. Using something less powerful than an i7 would lead to poor performance in such scenarios. I've noticed many similar complaints on forums, so this isn't just a personal opinion.
