I've been gradually improving my computer setup over time. After my previous monitor failed, I started playing games on a 27-inch 4K display using Core2Quad Q8200 [email protected], 4GB DDR2 RAM at 800MHz and an MSI RX480 with 4GB memory. The CPU and RAM still need better upgrades. I've been considering switching to an i5-6600K last summer, but since I'm getting a 4K screen and don't plan to upgrade my graphics anytime soon, I'm looking into the G4560 and adding 8GB of RAM. Here are my thoughts, reasoning, and expectations:

I mainly play Starcraft 2, CS:GO, W40k DoW2 series, Dragon Age, and Assassin's Creed. My Steam library from 2011-2016 suggests that a 4K GPU won't be the main bottleneck for boosting FPS in older titles (they don’t demand much now). I’m leaning toward an i5-6600K, but since I’ve already invested in the 4K display, I’m weighing the cost.

Upgrading to a more powerful CPU and RAM could help, especially if I want smoother performance. I’m planning to use a free sync rate between 40-60fps, with occasional dips to 40 at very high settings. My experience so far shows that free sync can smooth out stuttering, even though changing graphics settings didn’t improve FPS much. This means the GPU isn’t the main cause of frame drops to 30 or 40fps in 4K.

For your question about the G4560: it should not significantly interfere with 4K gaming alongside the RX480. The monitor purchase has already lowered my budget expectations, so I’m confident it won’t be a major issue.

I updated this on May 7, 2017, by MuffinDealer and adjusted the free sync range to match what my monitor supports.

For older titles, a 480 can handle 4K, though some games won't reach the highest settings. It should work well for SC2 and CS:GO. Your post has been updated as well. Regarding the G4560, I'm not sure, but it should likely reduce CPU frame drops compared to a Q8200.

In CS:GO you won’t need to stress about Freesync. Expect smooth performance above 90+ FPS even with anti-aliasing.

Ryzen 5 1400 Asrock B350 gaming K4 with 8GB RAM, Corsair 3000 MHz, under 400 euros – great performance for the price!

I was attempting to convey that the allocated funds for the upgrade have been exhausted because of a purchase of a 4K monitor. The current actual spending is around 180€ (including shipping), which exceeds the initial budget of 200€.
