FX8320 Overclocked to 4.5Ghz
FX8320 Overclocked to 4.5Ghz
Previously, I set my FX to 4.2Ghz at stock voltage (1.3V) and it worked fine. Then I increased it to 4.5Ghz with stock voltage, but my PC froze during the stress test. After adjusting the voltage to 1.4V and running a prime95 test for about an hour, the idle temperature stayed between 30°C and underload reached 52.5%. Is this enough stability? Or should I take further action if it doesn’t hold? Also, my specs are: MB - Gigabyte 970a-d3p, CPU Cooler - Corsair H105.
I found it quite impressive that you achieved such a strong overclock with a 970 chipset.
While the screenshot seems promising, I suggest running a synthetic benchmark such as Prime95 to thoroughly stress test it for at least five hours before confirming success. Some experts even advise longer tests—around ten hours—to ensure stability.
When I was optimizing my FX8350, I managed a two-hour stress session without issues, though I did encounter blue screens in games due to an imbalanced ratio.
Other than that, your temperatures are excellent and it looks like you handled the task well.
I hope this information is useful and best of luck!
You can also run Intel Burn Test (IBT) if you are concerned and wish to stress the CPU some more, possibly in conjunction with FurMark to stress the GPU at the same time.
The cyclic test of IBT in conjunction with the high GPU loading from FurMark is closer to a worst case gaming load, if that's something you do with your machine.
It's really up to you at which point you declare that your system is stable enough. There is no universally agreed upon metric. I honestly never saw the point in stressing my components for hours at a time at full throttle like that. Prime95 usually tells me within 20 minutes and IBT usually tells me within about 10 minutes if an overclock isn't going to work for my purposes.
There are no blue screens or errors so far, so I’ll keep using this cz—it looks good for me.
Thanks m8 for the suggestion! 😀
