Fx8320+ msi 970+ hyper evo
Fx8320+ msi 970+ hyper evo
I have the CPU for several years now, specifically a 3 GHz model. I’m considering an upgrade before making any changes, either to push its limits or to skip it if performance improves. My gaming is mainly on Wow, and right now the CPU runs at 25°C idle and 55-63°C under full synthetic load.
My main concern is whether my current specs make it possible to run this kind of project successfully.
How should I proceed (I’m new to overclocking)?
Could a moderate boost help compensate for its age without raising the voltage?
Am there any risk that my system might fail (failure or damage)?

You might consider increasing your clock speed to 4.3-4.5 GHz. However, this won't be ideal for this CPU since it struggles with single-core performance compared to Intel at similar frequencies from the same year or newer models. Despite this, it should provide enough power for the games you enjoy. Your motherboard may not be suitable for overclocking due to its older 970 chipset. To proceed, you'll need to adjust the multipliers in BIOS manually. Be cautious of the risk of damaging the CPU or motherboard, especially if you lack experience. Look up online threads about overclocking this CPU with your current motherboard. Also, ensure your cooler is adequate for the overclocking process.

If it's the 970 gaming board, it's a strong overclocking platform. Are you using an 8320 or a lower power version with a clocked 8320e? Either way, your temperatures shouldn't be excessively high with an EVO 212. I've tested an [email protected] on a 212 EVO and it never exceeded 65°C even after extended stress tests.
