Hello everyone,
My setup includes: FX6300, M5A97 r2.0 (supports 6+2 cpu power phase), Corsair xms3 1600 4x2GB, Powercolor R9 380, and a PSU of HKC 550W with 4 CPU power phases.
When I try to overclock it, the system works fine up to 4GHz at standard voltage. Beyond that, the PC becomes unstable, especially during OS boot. Despite this, temperatures stay below 40°C even at 4.2GHz.
I’m wondering if this PSU with only 4 missing power phases can handle the instability issues?
Please advise.
Thank you in advance.

Yes, you need all 8 connected, but the VRM isn't receiving sufficient power.

You can purchase adapters to convert from 4pin to 8pin. Search for "4pin to 8pin" online.

I just installed a 680 watt 8 pin PSU and overclocked it to 4.4Ghz. Everything works fine, the custom thermaltake cooler keeps temperatures under 60°C even during stress tests. CountMike said you should have all 8 connected, but the VRM isn't getting enough power.
