fx 6100 overclocking
I have a FX 6100 and an MSI 970 gaming rig. I went to 3.8 with temperatures between 55-60. I upgraded the cooler to Cooler Master and moved to 3.9 with temperatures between 15-25 on idle and 35-45 under load. It ran without issues. When I reached 4 GHz, it started but would restart after 2-3 minutes of playing Mafia 3. Temperatures stayed under or around 45-50. I only increased the ratio to get to 3.9 and enabled Ofcourse Turbo, Cool N Quiet, which are disabled. Can you help me understand what’s wrong? I want to reach a max of 4.2. Is that possible?
Hey Yash. You need to enter the BIOS and adjust the settings accordingly. Turn off Cool N Quiet, set your LLC to high or ultra (depending on what's available), and raise the CPU voltage manually, increasing it slightly beyond 1.4V but keeping it under 1.5V. Skip the RAM for now. Gradually tweak the multiplier in increments of 100 MHz. Once you're in Windows, run Prime95 or another CPU test to verify a stable overclock.
Hey Yash, let's see if I can help. Which technique are you employing to boost your clock speed—multiplier or BCLK? Have you verified that your LLC (load line calibration) is configured for high or ultra settings according to the motherboard? What voltage are you applying? Also, remember to tweak your RAM during the overclocking process. Please share your current stock details and the overclocked specs: BCLK (base clock), multiplier, voltage, and RAM speeds. You should be able to reach above 4ghz with a reliable system. Also, which software are you using to track temperatures? I recommend AMD Overdrive and keeping an eye on the thermal margin . It’s important to note that a thermal margin of 20 gives you a safety buffer of 20 degrees.

i adjusted the multiplier using the bios settings on the msi 970. cpu voltages are set to auto and ram is also configured. for voltages, ram frequency should be set accordingly. the base clock is 200 with a multiplier of 18.5, currently running at 3.9 ghz. i check temperatures via the msi hardware monitor in bios settings and use open hardware monitor after logging into windows.
