Futures built from digital madness... HL2 Alyx, SteamVr
Has anyone tried using Leap motion for gripping? I recently acquired some unusual hardware to test with SteamVR and check if it functions as middleware without too much hassle. I experimented with various methods—IR tracking, white light led tracking, hand tracking, and full-body tracking. I purchased three PS3 eye cameras, each paired with three Razberry Pi Wi-Fi units, intended for FreeTrack (trackiR, TrackHat) to handle head tracking at a minimum, and room tracking as a bonus. I also explored Kinect for PC v2 and v1, which had some impressive applications in VR around 5-10 years ago. There’s also the Dell Visor headset, WMR HP v1000-100 WMR, Lenovo Explorer WMR, Explorer controllers, Occulus Rift DK2, and even the Occulus Touch Controllers. People were getting creative with these tools in VR a decade ago. I considered using a Lenovo Light Sabers controller and a big subwoofer setup, but ended up installing a full 5.1 surround sound system with JBL PA speakers, a Bose PA, two Carver Pm-350 power amplifiers, and a massive subwoofer. I even broke a window in the process. Planning to sell all this gear to raise funds for a proper setup, though I’m still unsure if Index tracking is essential.
