Futureproof Movie Files/Software
Futureproof Movie Files/Software
I'm looking for ways to purchase TV shows I enjoy, but I'm worried about using Blu-ray on a Linux system. I need to be able to watch them in 30 years without having to buy again, since Blu-ray might not exist or be supported on future desktop computers. This leads me to think digital files or downloads would be the best option. But regular streaming services seem risky because their availability isn't guaranteed over such a long time. It would also be helpful to be able to watch content even if the internet connection fails, which streaming services can't provide. What solution exists for buying digital movie files that I could use on another PC later?
Check if Blu rays are available, rip them to the hard drive for backup and ease. If Linux doesn’t support them, convert them to a format Linux can play.
There are various options available. A few keywords might help.
