I believe spending a lot of time on tech enthusiast forums can create an exaggerated view of gaming. Most people don’t own a graphics card as powerful as even a GTX 970. Only a tiny group uses 1440p, 4K, or 120/144 Hz displays. 1080p remains widely used by the majority. You can likely run DA: Inquisition at full settings, but MSAA in Frostbite 3 games severely impacts performance. The same applies to BF4 and BFH. Lowering that setting usually fixes the issue, though it may not be ideal. Use SMAA through a third-party tool if needed. Some titles, like Assassin's Creed Unity, are problematic. DirectX 12 won’t solve the problem. Developers who produce solid DX11 games are likely still making good DX12 titles. A developer releasing poor DX11 games probably continues that trend. Check your hardware requirements based on the games that actually run well.

I made major changes to Witcher 3 and consistently achieve over 60 frames per second on my 1440p screen. I haven’t touched Unity, haven’t purchased it, and won’t in the future. DA: I was ahead of my time before the GTX980Ti and 1440p displays existed.

144fps at ultra with 980ti achieving 80-90fps ultra in many games at 1440p is impressive. That's a solid performance considering the settings.
