Hello everyone. I’m facing a frustrating problem that’s getting harder to handle. My HP laptop (Spectre X360 from late 2015) runs Windows 10 64-bit, and I use a resistive stylus designed for this model. Usually, moving the stylus closer to the screen lets it function as a cursor, requiring pressure for input. However, occasionally I notice strange behavior: the stylus draws input without touching the screen at all. In the video you shared, https://streamable.com/qgio08, this issue is clearly illustrated. The stylus came without any drivers or installation files. I’ve attempted to remove it via Device Manager and restart the PC, but nothing resolved the problem.

Interestingly, locking the computer with Win+L works normally, suggesting the issue lies in software rather than hardware. I have no evidence of external interference, my touchscreen is off, and even if it were, it shouldn’t affect the stylus. The only possible solution is restoring from a previous backup, though this sometimes fails. Another workaround I’ve tried before is resetting the PC, which wipes all software. Could there be a hidden folder controlling stylus settings? My experience with HP Tech Support was unhelpful—they insisted there’s no such folder, and some agents even suggested my neighbors might be affecting it.

I’m unsure how to proceed without resetting the system regularly. Would creating a new user account help? I’d appreciate specific guidance on diagnosing this without losing my device. If you have more details about your setup or recent changes, please share. Thanks in advance for your help.
