I upgraded my old machine to a new configuration but left the SSD with the OS on. I didn’t want to reinstall Windows or move everything out since the drive was still functional. After switching to the new PC starting with Windows 10, everything ran smoothly and started quickly without any issues. The problem began a few days after installing Windows 11. Programs would take a moment to launch, especially the top two I use—VS Code Remote Desktop and another app—which sometimes felt slow but other times instant. I searched online but didn’t find a clear solution; most results pointed to general Windows performance rather than my specific setup. My current specs are: Windows 11 Pro 64-bit, Intel i7-13700K, Kingston FURY RENEGADE, RGB case, and the mentioned storage drives.
Upgrading to the latest Windows version often requires a full reset. Previous versions can cause complications later on. To resolve all issues and begin anew, perform a clean installation. This will greatly reduce future troubles.
Two points to keep in mind. First, always perform clean fresh installs of the OS to prevent complications. Second, confirm that W11 is indeed the cause of the lag—avoid using it. W11 imposes strict limitations that can push older hardware beyond its capabilities, making it technically slower than W10, even if only slightly. Both versions are noticeably slower compared to customized W10 and W11 builds that remove unnecessary bloat and telemetry. For optimal performance, sticking with the standard version is better than relying on bloated alternatives.
A solid upgrade would be W11, not Tiny11. It offers better performance and features.
