Steam edition stands out among FSX options. For students with a $60 USD budget, P3D v3 is worth considering—it's actively being improved and runs better on today’s hardware compared to FSX or Steam Edition. Dovetail Games is shifting focus toward their new flight simulator launching next year. What kind of simulation interests you? If you're looking for casual flying, standard prop planes suffice; for practical training, explore A2A for props and PMDG for jets. For more help, Avsim forums are ideal as they’re tailored to flight simulation enthusiasts.

That sounds promising! In this situation, I’d recommend starting with P3D v3 and examining A2A’s aircraft, as those are likely what you’ll encounter in flight school. For jet models, PMDG’s 737 and 777 are top choices. The Aerosoft A320 is also a solid option.
