One of my closest friends, whom I met in CSGO three years ago, we still chat through messaging. I believe it's worth it.

Yes, pc gaming is pretty damn awesome. But what do you want to do or play on PC? You've given us very little info to work with as far as giving your a recommendation.

If you intend to use it for gaming, then yes, purchase or build a PC. But if they're not that important, don't expect much change. And if you're on PC, you won't be left behind—they'll be ahead. PC gaming offers the best experience currently available.

it's still beneficial to have a pc for school or work anyway.
it's okay to add a bit more power to ensure smooth operation for light to medium gaming.

If your friends aren't into games, don't rely on them to push you into buying anything. I've connected with most of my gaming friends through semi-competitive play. I didn't choose PC for the same reason—friends had other plans. Back then, it was before cable internet, but that's when I decided to go. I picked PC because I preferred games there over consoles.
