Hello everyone, here are the detailed specifications:

Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 5700G (new) or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D (older)
CPU Cooler: Cooler CPU ID - Cooling Frostflow X 240 Lite
GPU: AMD RX 6600 XT
RAM: Crucial Ballistix, 16GB DDR4, 3200MHz CL16, Dual Channel Kit
Kingston Storage: 1TB HDD + 1TB NVME m.2 SSD
Power Supply: Seasonic Core GC, 80+ Gold, 650W
Issue: After upgrading CPU and installing cooler, I experienced PC freezes during alt-tab actions in games. After a week or two, random clicking and alt-tabbing temporarily resolved the problem, but after about 10-30 seconds the mic input would be delayed. During this time the screen remained frozen while audio stayed clear. Occasionally, when no game was running, I noticed similar behavior while watching YouTube. One time without any game, the issue occurred even with a video stream.

I can still hear YouTube and Discord, but after repeated clicks or alt-tabs, the PC would freeze for 1-2 seconds before resuming. This happened during both gaming and casual browsing. I’ve tried restarting the system to recover, but it doesn’t always fix it. Sometimes I can perform 30 alt-tabs without issues, though the first few attempts may cause freezing.

I’m unsure why this only happened in the first week or two, possibly due to memory limitations or a temporary glitch. I’ve checked many troubleshooting steps: reinstalled Windows, cleaned HDD/SSD, updated BIOS, reinstalled drivers, reset CMOS, removed RAM stick, cleared DOCP profile, pressured GPU, disabled hardware acceleration in various apps.

I’m running out of ideas and feel overwhelmed. Please help me understand what’s going on.

Are you trying to preserve something by stopping its cooling process? Get a heater instead. Jokes aside, how long has your power supply been in use?

Robchil recently purchased a new PSU last year. I've noticed a small improvement but still can't grasp what's happening beyond swapping the GPU, which doesn't seem likely. In a final attempt when the system froze, I removed the HDMI cable from the GPU and reinserted it—then everything worked normally without needing a restart. Still unsure what this means. It appears freezes happen even without gaming or using alt-tab. After taking my PC away for about 15 minutes, it didn't sleep or behave oddly. When I returned and started using it, it froze again immediately, but this time resolved by reinserting the HDMI cable. My system monitor shows normal power usage and temperatures on the GPU.

Have you experimented with another HDMI cable? And run HWinfo64...

I plan to purchase a display port and test it out.

Sorry, the issue persists even after replacing the cable.

It appears to be an AMD Windows Update problem. The issue seems linked to software rather than hardware. I think Edge Browser might be involved. It’s my default browser, but it freezes only when opened with custom settings. Changing its defaults resolved the problem. Restarting the GPU driver with WIN+CTRL+SHIFT+B also helped. Others in the same situation reported similar experiences.

I understand you've already explored many options, but have you considered testing another HDMI or DP output from the GPU? It might be worth checking since a loose connection could cause issues. Still, it's funny how people post updates after this date—hoping they'd find a fix. Unfortunately, they didn't follow up to let us know if anything worked.

I identified the responsible party and found a fix. After testing across ten similar threads, all results pointed to 23.9.2+ GPU drivers. These versions mentioned specific issues. In my setup I used 23.30.01.02 drivers, which were the preview version 2 with Fluid motion frames. Unfortunately, these also depended on 23.9.3 or 23.9.2. Other users discovered that 23.9.1 was free from these problems. However, 23.10.1 appeared and, according to release notes, resolved the video playback freeze. The fixes in 23.10.1 removed the issue, and 23.10.2 was implemented successfully. The freezing they described (AMD) was essentially GPU hardware acceleration for non-gaming tasks, which caused the problem. Disabling hardware acceleration in the browser seemed to bypass the freeze. For anyone joining this discussion, I recommend trying 23.10.2 or 23.9.1—based on experiences from other sites.
