Freeze all system functions in Device Manager
Freeze all system functions in Device Manager
I've been dealing with some hardware issues for a while now, trying to fix things. But I'm stuck—my device manager works fine until I ask it to run a hardware scan. Then everything stops completely, no movement, nothing at all. It's like my computer just shut down. This started in December with my 6700 XT; because of this and slow performance, I had to return the GPU. I've gone through three reformats for my 6TB drive, and it finally worked out. Now I'm realizing the problem isn't just the GPU. I've been looking for advice on why the Device Manager freezes during a hardware scan, but most sources only mention the issue happening in 2017. It's a fresh install today, no new software or hardware added since the GPU and reformatting. I've attached a screenshot of my device manager. Spoiler: it's still a mystery.
I would attempt to keep only essential devices—both internal and external—and test if the problem persists. If it stops, I’d reintroduce them individually until the issue returns. This approach could help identify which device is responsible. It might be simpler, but I’d try this first.
Hi @MrWarren, I have the same issue you mentioned. Do you already have the solution available? Would you mind sharing it with us? I discovered the fix for my problem. The issue was a faulty SSD; once I unplugged it physically, the scan stopped detecting the system. Edited July 7, 2023 by Raymoendow
