Freesync/Gsync along with video capture/passthrough
I've been exploring ways to improve my stream and video capture setup recently. I'm eager to share my findings before diving into the details. My current system includes an RTX 3090 FE paired with an MSI MAG 32" monitor (Optix MAG322CQRV). I've enabled Gsync in the Nvidia control panel, which allows me to use Freesync on the monitor by selecting "Enable settings for the selected display model." This setup functions smoothly without any problems.
On the other hand, I'm using DisplayPort and most top-rated video capture or passthrough devices prefer HDMI (specifically HDMI 2.1 for optimal performance). The issue I'm facing is whether switching to HDMI and using a pass-through device would still work with Freesync/Gsync. The AMD FAQ mentions that many FreeSync-certified displays support variable refresh rate technologies beyond HDMI since before HDMI 2.1 was introduced, and purchasing a display that supports FreeSync over HDMI gives the advantage of VRR, even if the monitor doesn't support HDMI 2.1. However, I'm introducing some new factors so it's unclear if this applies universally.
Appreciate any advice or clarification you can provide.
There is a capture tool designed for VRR. Elgato's HD60X is promoted to handle this feature.
