Create a backup of your C: drive during a fresh Windows 11 installation. I have a 2 TB M.2 drive and need to make a clone of it for storage on my 14TB D: drive. Use a bootable USB tool to copy the image from the larger D: drive to the C: drive again. I’m not very familiar with this process now—I used to be more comfortable with it before UEFI and using CDs/DVDs for recovery. If anyone suggests a free or nearly free solution, I think the built-in Windows tools don’t have what I need.

Macrium Reflect remains effective, though the free edition is no longer available.

Create two Windows 11 installations. Keep one as the root drive at d:/ and ensure it’s future-proof. The second drive should store all files, so if the first becomes inaccessible, Windows can still locate them. The second drive doesn’t require activation. You can also set up a factory restore point on another drive for backup, ensuring no data loss. This method works well and can be adapted to different machines or spare drives.
