Frametime surges
Frametime surges
Hello everyone! A year back I assembled a PC (you can see the parts below), and I experienced frame rate drops in all games, even just in Windows. I explored every possible solution and am starting to lose hope, not sure who to ask. I know modern titles can stutter sometimes, but I think not every game should. The list of things I tried would be long enough, so if you have any suggestions or ideas, please let me know. I’ll tell you what I attempted or if it didn’t help, I’ll let you know whether it resolved the issue or still exists. I notice stutters on: Black ops 6 Mafia (1) Definitive edition Insurgency Sandstorm Spider-Man Miles Morales Need for Speed Unbound RuneScape Dragonwilds Dead by Daylight Sometimes even in CS2 and Valorant and also in OSU My build: MSI B650 MAG Tomahawk Wifi Ryzen 7800X3D (I even type here the cooler which is a Dark Rock Pro 5) 4080 Super Corsair 2x16GB 6000Mhz CL30 Corsair RM850x Shift WD SN850X 1TB WD SN850X 4TB I’m playing at 1440p and 165Hz with GSYNC. I’d really appreciate any advice. Here’s an example of the spikes: https://streamable.com/1763fj
Are you referring to brief dips in performance from 162 FPS to around 156 FPS in your gameplay? I don’t think this is due to spikes since the footage looks quite smooth. Here are some steps you can try:
- Install the latest GPU drivers. If you recently upgraded your graphics card, reinstall Windows or use DDU to uninstall the old drivers before installing new ones.
- Disable PBO and switch to the default CPU settings. You have a solid cooler, so undervolting isn’t necessary unless you previously adjusted it.
- Turn off EXPO for your RAM and run it at normal speed to check if stutters persist. If they do, re-enable EXPO but lower the speeds.
I hope these suggestions help. I experienced similar issues with Windows versions running PBO at -30, so I adjusted to -25 and it improved significantly.
Thanks for your response! Everything seems current. I even used DDU and went back to an older version (566.36), then applied NVCleanstall for the latest driver with minimal setup—including HDMI audio and physics—though it didn’t succeed.
Thank you for your message. I understand you're noticing the same issues despite adjusting settings. It seems the problem isn't limited to FPS drops alone. Even at higher refresh rates like 165Hz, spikes persist when pushing above the refresh limit. Your GPU drivers are current and a fresh Windows install helped, but nothing seems to resolve it. You've already tried PBO, disabled settings, and adjusted speed, yet the issue remains. I've also noted you mentioned PBO at -30, but switched back to default. It might be worth checking other drivers or hardware compatibility. If you'd like, I can guide you through further troubleshooting steps.
You can press control plus shift plus windows plus b to perform a brief system restart. Note: your GPU might support a dual BIOS option—check for alternative settings if available.
I tried the button combo but nothing happened. I have a physical switch and another option in the MSI center, but I’m avoiding extra bloat on my PC, so I didn’t install it. A few days ago I changed the physical switch from silent to gaming mode, yet the problem continues.
You can execute the "full-screen" test using your monitor's native resolution. During benchmarking, a graph will display data on the left side. You'll be able to review temperatures, power consumption, and other metrics there. Watch for any unusual patterns. The testing process typically lasts around five minutes.
