Frame rate remains steady at 60fps on dual monitors, yet it jumps to 165hz when the second screen is removed
I have a dual monitor setup with one 165hz and one 60hz display. It was fine until last week, but now games only run at a max of 60fps, even with VSync off, if I disconnect/disable the second display they run at 165fps. Here's what I checked so far, 1. Installed the latest Nvidia drivers 2. Installed the latest Windows updates 3. Verified that it says 165Hz refresh rate in all the settings panels possible 4. NVIDIA Control Panel does not have any setting limiting the fps. 5. Turned off all the advanced features in Windows settings for "better performance" as seen in this [guide](https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/overwa...n11/827123). I tried to search for the regedit at the end, but that folder/file didn't exist for me 6. I can confirm that I at least get 158 fps when only my primary monitor is connected. 7. Both monitors are connected via DP with a good cable 8. Scaling is off in Geforce Experience 9. I typically play valorant and used to get 300+ fps, but now it is stuck, same with Witcher 3/cyberpunk/cities skylines, etc Running W11 I'm usually pretty tech-savvy and I guess I checked most of the usual suspects, but this is driving me nuts, any help is greatly appreciated!
Could a Windows update be responsible for the issue? If so, try reverting to the previous update and observe if the problem resolves. From a hardware perspective, using a monitor connected through DP and another via HDMI might yield better results. Sometimes unconventional fixes help with unusual problems.
It's about how the displays are connected: are they linked in a chain (monitor 1 → monitor 2 → GPU) or each is directly connected to the GPU via a DP port? For the chain setup, I understand Dell monitors can have refresh rate restrictions when MST is active.
After checking online, I confirmed it's an old problem if you're viewing it in full screen, though I still have it either way.
