Frame drop and poor performance?
Frame drop and poor performance?
I recently upgraded my CPU to an i9 9900kf from a ryzen 7 2700x, kept my 1660 gpu and 16 gb's of ram. Right after installing the parts and turning on the system, I noticed major performance problems. My games run at high FPS (Valorant around 250, Rust around 110), but I experience terrible stuttering and frame drops while playing. I tried reinstalling drivers, checked temperatures which were normal, enabled XMP on my RAM, but still nothing. I even went as far as wiping my harddrives and starting fresh, thinking it might be a hardware issue. Now I’m using one SSD and everything else works fine—boot time is quick, applications run smoothly. The problem only appears when playing games. My CPU usage in Task Manager stays at the lowest levels, so I’m not sure what’s causing the issue. Any advice would be really appreciated.
Yes, I reinstalled Windows, everything is fresh. I also installed the Nividias drivers. The removal of GeForce seemed to be the possible cause.
Is the FPS stable or does it suddenly decrease? Determine whether the games rely on the dedicated graphics card or the built-in video chip. Try a newer video driver to see if performance improves.
Check if games use a dedicated video card and consider uninstalling your current driver for an older version.
The graphics driver should remove and then reinstall the version you download. If issues arise, you can attempt to start in safe mode and use DDU.
i'm setting up an older version from last year, and i'm hoping this resolves the problem since the new hardware isn't budget-friendly.
