Hello all, I hope you are all well. Currently building my new PC, trying to install the Thermalright contact frame and it will not tighten at all to my mobo (Asus ROG STRIX Z790-E). I’m not sure if I’m missing something or? I looked at the back on the motherboard to where the screws are being tightened and there is no sort of backplate or anything that the screws should be tightening into, they are just looping. Not sure what’s up! Looking for some advice! Thanks! *I should add, my CPU is an i7 13700k if that helps at all*

It seems the initial connection plate was likely removed, possibly because it came loose during the process.

I don’t think so. I removed the original socket cover from the motherboard and right away attempted to install the Thermalright contact frame; I haven’t moved the machine at all, and the backplate isn’t visible anywhere. When I lifted the PC to check if it had fallen, it wasn’t there under the computer.

Hey, I’m really confused. I started thinking maybe the backplate moved or something so I grabbed the computer and gave it a shake. I heard some sliding sounds. It looks like the backplate might have slipped under my case where I couldn’t see it but would make noise when I shook it hard. I guess there’s no way the motherboard didn’t have one after all.

It's usually best to perform this step before putting the motherboard in place, ensuring it stays stable on a flat surface.
