I recently performed some performance evaluations for my setup in AIDA64 and observed temperatures reaching extreme levels, approaching 1% throttling even after everything was verified. Looking into potential causes, I eventually ran all components except the FPU and my Intel i9 12900K with the RTX 3090Ti. Both were consistently around 65-70°C under full load without any overclocking. When I stressed the FPU specifically, temperatures spiked rapidly (reaching 90°C) and it was nearly maxed out. Running the test for just 10-15 seconds was necessary because the CPU throttled quickly once the FPU was engaged. Why do floating-point operations on the CPU generate such high heat? Most gaming tasks actually handle these operations on the GPU, not the CPU. Does intense gaming really put a heavy load on the CPU’s FPU? What real-world scenarios on a PC would most challenge the CPU’s FPU performance? I’m new to overclocking and would value any advice or explanations.

Relies on the processor architectures in use. Likely I'm assuming AVX2 tasks since they require significant CPU cache usage, raising the processing time noticeably.
