Hardware details: Graphics card MSI RTX 2080 Super Gaming X Trio, CPU AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, motherboard MSI MPG X570 GAMING PRO CARBON WIFI (MS-7B93), RAM Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro with four 8GB modules at 3600 MHz DDR4-RAM (32GB total), BIOS dated March 1, 2023. Operating system Microsoft Windows 11 Home x64, version 22621.1485. Monitors include Acer XB273 GX (1920x1090/240hz for FPS games), Acer VG270U P (2540x1440/144hz for high quality), and Acer V277 (1920x1080/75hz). In games like CSGO and Overwatch, FPS caps at 300 with unstable performance; drops to 160 in both titles. CPU reaches 75% load, GPU 60%; usage stays around 50%. RAM remains stable at 15GB. Attempts to fix included reinstalling Windows multiple times, adjusting graphics settings, updating drivers, using game repair tools, closing background apps, and even auto-overclocking the CPU with AMD Ryzen Master. Goal is consistent 250 FPS in Overwatch and CSGO. Possible issue: CPU may be limiting GPU performance. Considering replacement CPUs such as Ryzen 7 5900X or Ryzen 7 5800X3D, but unsure if they’ll resolve the problem.

You're hitting a CPU bottleneck and have two options: 1. Play on a 1440p display 2. Improve with a new CPU or full system upgrade. A mid-range Zen3 chip like the 5600, 5700X or 5900X would make a noticeable difference, but a 5800X3D offers a much larger jump. The ideal choice is a fresh platform, though that's the most expensive—like a B650 motherboard with the Ryzen 7800X3D and 32GB DDR5. If you stick with shooters at 1080p, the 5800X3D could be the best pick. After that, consider a full system upgrade (Ryzen 9000 would be my choice).

Thank you for your prompt reply. I'll aim to secure the 5800X3D as soon as possible and will keep you informed.

Throwing hardware at issues is a typical fix... so yes, installing a 5800X3D should address your concerns (or at least help). However, minor drops will occur randomly. Are you just noticing the 160 value in the graph and being upset about it? Or is this happening consistently every few seconds? Those are quite different. It’s unrealistic that you’re missing something when over 20GB is used for just CS:GO open... I don’t know what’s going on, but there seems to be some background activity. Your hardware shouldn’t be the main bottleneck. CS:GO is quite old and runs on a single-threaded engine; it’s better to enable PBO and let the CPU auto-boost rather than trying to manually overclock. Even a GTX 1660 can hit around 300 FPS, and a 0.1% drop to 160 FPS isn’t a big deal. You should check how each core is performing. To avoid unwanted behavior from Windows, lock the CS:GO process to specific cores—this stops it from jumping around and removes some of the drops. TL;DR: I really question whether your setup is powerful enough for what you’re describing.

The drops happen when I fight/being in combat and it really affects me. In the spawn where almost nothing is going on im at 300 fps. I'd like to have some tabs open and be able to record or stream. I already tried running games with absolutely nothing running in the background and it just helped only a little bit. So I'll go for the upgrade of the cpu.

It doesn't seem like the 3700X speed will be an issue in CS:GO. There might be another factor at play. How are you tracking performance? Opening multiple tabs shouldn't cause problems, but Chrome's background usage is increasing (it was just RAM before). Some users are disabling GPU acceleration in Chrome to manage it better. And when you mention no processes running, did you go too far into Task Manager and end things manually?

I previously cleared all items in the task manager under the details section. After reinstalling Windows, I only had Steam (CS:GO) and BattlNet (Overwatch) installed, which didn’t really improve things.

It might be related to the fact you're using four RAM sticks instead of two. Some systems experience stability issues with more modules, so it's worth testing.

Perhaps in previous times, such as years back. It doesn't really create an issue now.

It downloads the controller, which limits their ability to reach extremely fast speeds, yet he isn't relying on excessive memory usage.
