FPS decreases when the laptop is connected to power.
Hello, I've been dealing with a problem on my gaming laptop for the past few weeks. It's an Alienware Area 51m model that's been running for over four years now. I recently added a 1TB Samsung 980 SSD, and it's performing much better than before. Still, I've noticed something odd while playing lately—my games stutter and FPS drop even when I'm using just one charger or none at all. I've been using two cords for best performance, with a 180W adapter and a 240W one, and both have AC ports. After replacing the AC plugs, the issue persisted. It seems the problem might be related to the power ports themselves, but swapping them didn't help. I can play with one plugged in, but it risks underpowering the CPU and overheating. Here are the specs: Alienware Area 51m, Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070, Intel Core i7-9700K, 8 cores, 8 logical processors, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, 1TB HDD, Samsung 980 SSD.
