As the title indicates, I discovered a laptop (Dell Latitude 5400) at my workplace that was labeled as retired and stored in the trash room. I took it for inspection, and although it still appeared in good condition, it remained connected to the network. After resetting it, it seemed to clear the connection, but a coworker suggested it might have a virus. Since it’s no longer in use, I’m unsure how to remove it from the system. What steps should I follow?

Return the device to your office and inquire with the person who has authorization to provide it if possible. Also, consult the IT department to ensure all necessary steps are taken for safe personal use.

I proceeded to take it without asking for approval.
