Hi,
my friend's Forza Horizon 5 isn't opening.
He attempted it both with and without the Windows defender.
They've checked all the forums and threads they could find.

Game functioned previously, but eventually ceased working after some time.

Hey there,
Did they remove or reinstall the game? Is it using Origin or Steam? If yes, you can verify the file integrity and this might assist in fixing the problem.
