Forza Horizon 4 requires nearly 13GB of RAM, which can cause a laptop to become unresponsive.
Laptop specifications for Legion 5 2021 include a Ryzen 7 5800H with RTX 3060 graphics, 6GB mobile RAM at 130W TDP, and 8GB x2 (16GB) of standard RAM at 3200MHz. Storage consists of a 512GB SSD plus a 1TB external drive for additional files, with Forza downloaded there. The operating system runs on an SSD 512GB paired with a 1TB SSD for other data. Recently installed Forza Horizon 4 from Steam. Initially, launching the game was slow and took a long time; I believed it was just loading. When trying to move the mouse, the cursor didn’t respond and the laptop became unresponsive, eventually shutting down completely. After a forced shutdown, I restarted and attempted to launch again using Task Manager on the second monitor. At that point, the game would open instantly, then consume 2GB of RAM before hitting a limit, causing the machine to freeze.
Forza is configured with ultra settings. Raise graphics drivers to the newest version and ensure all other system updates are installed, including chipset, audio, network, etc. Keep background processes minimal—only Steam should run. Discord is acceptable, but anything else is best closed. For a deeper fix, turn on global vsync in NVIDIA Control Panel by adjusting image settings, applying advanced 3D options, and enabling vertical sync and triple buffering before launching the game.
