Played Fortnite with a friend last night and everything went smoothly. This morning my computer crashed and needed a full restart. I’m puzzled because the game worked perfectly 12 hours ago. I tried three times, each time freezing right before the Easy Anticheat screen exited and the main window appeared. I don’t have UEFI BIOS or Secure Boot enabled, but I’m not sure those settings are causing the issue. My temp folder is on a RAMdisk, which has led to app problems before, though my system settings haven’t changed since I played the game last night. I checked the game files and want to avoid reinstalling everything, which would take over 12 hours. My hardware includes an HP z840 Workstation with the latest BIOS, 8x8GB DDR4 ECC RAM, an RTX A4500 GPU, and recent drivers. The game launches from a 4x143GB RAID 0 array on an LSI SAS controller. I’m not a big gamer, so I’m unsure what’s wrong. It seems the anti-cheat feature might be the culprit, as others have reported similar problems. The computer handles other 3D games and CPU/disk tasks without trouble, so the problem is likely just Fortnite, the Epic launcher, or the anti-cheat software itself. I’m looking for a diagnostic tool or a way to reinstall just the anti-cheat component. Any advice?

Fortnite is utilizing DX12 or 12, based on your experience. If it's running 12 or you're unsure, you can modify the configuration files in the "FortniteGame" folder within AppData.

I configured it for DirectX 12, but without the game launching I can't make much of a difference. Maybe removing the DirectX 12 DLL from the game directory and hoping it switches back to DX11 works... I don't notice a .ini file with my preferences, unfortunately.

Change the directory reference to a different location.
