Hello, I’m planning to overclock my Ryzen 3 1200. Currently I have an evga 430w 80+ White setup. They’ve advised that to do an OC on the Ryzen 3 I’ll need a better PSU and a more efficient cooler for the chipset. My system details are:

Ryzen 3 1200
MoBo Msi b350 mortar
X2 Corsair Vengeance LPX 4 gb RAM 3200 mhz (8gb total)
3tb hdd Seagate Barracuda 7200 rpm 256 mb
GPU: Asus GTX1060 3gb
Cooler: Corsair H100i

At the moment I can only upgrade the PSU, and I intend to buy a M.2 or SSD soon. I also plan to upgrade the processor and GPU next year, so I need to pick a PSU that fits this timeline.

I’m located in Mexico, and premium PSU brands aren’t widely available here, nor are they very affordable. My budget for a PSU is roughly 50 to 80 dollars (1000 to 1600 Mexican pesos). The best I can save means I’m considering these options:

- Corsair CX 650 – $81
- Cooler Master Master Master watt 750 – $73
- EVGA BQ600 – $70
- ThermalTake 650W Smart Pro RGB – $86
- Corsair VS600 – $53
- Corsair CX550m – $71
- EVGA BQ650 – $69

Should I go with one of these, or should I keep searching? Thanks for your help.

Don't worry about needing a larger PSU. Keep your costs down. If necessary, place your computer on a Kill-a-WATT to check the power usage from the wall—expect less than 200W. My previous measurements show this.

The PSU and H100i cooler are fine for overclocking the CPU. No additional upgrades needed at this stage. This will be my first overclock attempt, so I’m wondering if a new PSU is really necessary right now? I’ve been checking guides and blogs, and most suggest a reliable PSU is essential for smooth operation, which is why I reached out for advice.

You shouldn't face any problems with OC that works with your PSU or cooler. I tested a 3.6 OC on my Ryzen 3 1200 using the stock cooler without issues, even on a 430W Corsair. Later, I upgraded the same case to an R7 1700 and ran it at 3.7 on that PSU.

I also have a Ryzen 2700 OC with 16GB RAM, two HDDs, and a GTX 1050, running on a Node 202 with a 430W power supply. Almost forgot.
