It's on sale and I'm thinking about it, though it isn't central to the main plot. I'd like to explore different zones, chat with objects and characters, and just soak in the visuals and sounds. I've watched some YouTube clips of people wandering around, but they never engage deeply. For those who have played the game, what interaction is possible? Can you enter buildings and reach higher areas? Or are all the scenic spots just for decoration?

I've completed nearly three runs through the game and you're right about exploring. You'll need to actually engage to reach certain spots at specific moments, though the layout remains quite accessible. Most non-player characters and random pedestrians are quiet unless tied to a quest, but there are some exceptions. I really enjoy just strolling around, even though I often end up in a confrontation eventually.

You can explore a lot of areas without completing the main storyline.

Free roam offers a wide area where you can jump and climb to different spots. The map becomes more interesting once certain missions or tasks are finished. You won’t be able to enter every building, many doors remain locked, but there’s still room to explore around structures and climb them for unique shots. It’s an open world with a noticeable number of locked doors overall. You can enjoy a lot of time just wandering, climbing, and discovering though.

It becomes much simpler when you gain certain physical enhancements. You can really push your limits then.

Only one area, roughly a fifth of the map, is available. Previously there was a method to reach all other zones quickly. I haven’t played since 2021, and it seems they addressed that issue. You managed to leap onto a tram moving too fast for its reset feature—this would send you back if you strayed too far. Once you reached it, you could use rapid transit to exit the initial zone and return. You also had access to many story-driven locations and characters, plus shops where you could purchase items beyond your usual level. They likely turned off rapid travel and shopping outside the starting area, but the tram trick still lets you bypass that restriction.
